Welcome to Future Tasmania
A community based network of thinkers and progressive Tasmanians passionate about a better way forward.
What we do
We are an independent organization .. not for profit.. not single issue.. and not party political.
We see a gap and a need for bringing forward ideas and debate which is not polarised or driven by political or industry specific agendas.. and that’s what we do.
We seek and promote new ways of thinking and solving problems, long term sustainable prosperity for our region, new economics, preservation of our unique environment, and strengthening the local Tasmanian community.
By bringing together inspired Tasmanians motivated to catalyse positive change .. we not only expand paradigms, but create networks and relationships that generate a powerful form of social capital and force for good.
Our Vision
Our vision is for Tasmania to be known not only for its beauty, but for the way in which a strong progressive island community can set a global example of a sustainable, equitable green economy.
As a community organisation, our mission is to engage passionate Tasmanian citizens, networks, businesses and organisations to explore new public solutions.

WHO WE ARE
We are an independent organisation. Not for profit. Not single issue.. and not a party political.
Future Tasmania was established in 2005 by thinkers from around the state, united by a vision of creating a thriving locally-based economy while at the same time preserving the environment, developing critical thinking, practical solutions, ethical leadership and autonomy.
We wanted to see if we could engage Tasmanians in exploring innovative solutions to the unique issues of being an island state.
We are made up of citizens who share concerns about how Tasmania can and will respond to the challenges of globalisation, climate change, the global financial crisis, food security and other issues facing us today.
Rob Blakers
In 40 years of professional work as a photographer Rob has worked primarily with the naturallandscape, specifically in conservation photography. Through this time, he has campaigned on a wide range of environmental issues, from wildlife to forests and wild rivers.
Rob believes that at this time of global climate and biodiversity crises, with the planet under assault as never before, it is incumbent on us, in whatever capacity we have, to bend our skills, resources and aptitudes towards making a positive difference.
